01. introduction fáilte! this is a private & slow roleplay blog for GRUOCH INGEN BOEDHE, based on the medieval history of scotland.
02. disclaimer no affiliations. this blog is intended for roleplay purposes only. gifcons made from gifs by @maurawrites. all headcanons, icons and graphics have been carefully curated and original content is clearly denoted and not for public use.
03. portrayal please note: this is a fictional portrayal of a historical figure. it is not necessarily based on william shakespeare's macbeth, though some influences may be adopted. in reality, macbeth and gruoch ruled together for seventeen years, a considerable amount of time in the period, and evidence suggests that their rule was legitimate, stable and generous. i am much more interested in this historical take.
04. on historical accuracy i will endeavour to incorporate relevant historical detail where appropriate, but i will also undoubtedly take plenty of artistic license. i do not hold any of my writing partners to any standard of historical accuracy, and if the 11th century is not your thing, i am not above inserting gruoch into a fantasy world.
05. interactions and following this blog is selective and private. interactions will be limited to mutuals unless otherwise stated. mutuals are free to im me, send in prompts and memes, or tag me in anything at any time. i often like mutuals' posts out of appreciation and will do so with gay abandon. i rarely post starter calls due to some overactive social anxiety, so please hmu if you'd like to plot.

basic rp etiquette and respect required, please refrain from interactions if you are under 18.
06. writing and formatting i write in third-person limited, with a preference for present-tense verbs, but have no problem writing past tense. i will not write with first- or second- person narrative styles. i value both one-liners and longer, in depth threads, generally finding a comfortable norm in one-para replies. not particularly finicky about formatting; my go to is small text and some word spacing, but please let me now if any formatting is a problem for you. i do not use correct capitalisation in replies and kind of hate myself for it, but the aesthetic. please cut your posts.
07. verses currently i am not typing out individual verse descriptions for gruoch. as a general rule, i am up for almost anything (crossovers, aus, etc.) especially if they are fantasy/history based. if you have a particular question regarding verses, your best bet is to jump into my asks or dms and yell at me.
08. shipping i love exploring relationships of all kinds for gruoch. chemistry is a must, and some minimal discussion of the dynamic before we jump on in. nsfw rare.
canonically gruoch ♡ macbeth, however, this may or may not be relevant to our interactions, so do with it what you will.

astrological: aries — bold, passionate and ambitious, aries throw themselves headfirst into the world eagerly and without fear. they are natural leaders who are confident with taking the initiative. with a frankness bordering on rude, rams may seem overly blunt if only because they value honesty above all else. although known for their tempers, their outbursts don't last long and rams are not prone to passive-agressiveness. aries are upbeat, positive and playful creatures who enjoy living life to the fullest
celtic: fox & alder — a sly reputation and intense, indomitable spirit may be off-putting to some, but foxes are wise, intuitive and clever. they don't take risks until they have thoroughly evaluated the situation, and others tend to follow a fox's lead without recruitment. trust and betrayal are huge concerns of this sign — they have a natural ability to influence others and are gifted liars. they can be closed off and choose what to say and when to say it with great care, however, foxes are genuine friends: extremely loyal and honest with those they care about for life. ambitious when it comes to what they want and impossible to ignore, those born under the fox sign are bold, charming and playful; — in general, alder signs are powerful, adventurous people prepared to make their own way in the world, often leaving friends and family behind. though noted for their fiery passions, sometimes resulting in jealousy and a quick temper which may earn them enemies, their courage will also earn them allies. alders inspire great loyalty in others with their affectionate, gentle and charming nature. those born under the alder sign have a well-honed sense of humour, if a little barbed, and will often play at giddiness when in the midst of a group, though in truth they have little patience for insincerity. impetuous and self-reliant, alders enjoy risk-taking and are tenacious workers, but they possess a need for recognition which often makes them vulnerable
abilities .
skills: horsemanship; swordsmanship, though this is largely ceremonial; political acumen

some facts until i write out a proper history:

᛫ gruoch is married off at about 17 to the mormaer of moray, gille coemgáin.

᛫ he has designs on the the alban throne, and gruoch’s father, perhaps to capitalise on his own ambitions, ignores the blatant risk of the match.
gruoch’s family’s ambitions and that of her husband put a target on all of their backs, and malcolm ii sends macbethad to deal with the threat in moray.

᛫ realising the misstep, gille coemgáin tries to barter with macbeth, offering gruoch’s life and that of their unborn child in exchange for the sparing of his own.
exceedingly offended, gruoch stabs her husband herself.

᛫ macbeth was happy enough to kill gille coemgáin for his own reasons as well as malcolm’s, so burns his body with 50 of his men and calls that job done.

᛫ he is decidedly less enthusiastic to carry out malcolm’s orders in regards to gruoch and offers to marry her to give her his protection.
